To think of the Annunciation as a mirror moment to the Noli Me Tangere--the Word becomes flesh, a body arrives mediated by another, Mary’s, that will hold it in care: touch it, tend to it, feed it with itself. In order to return to the Father, this space delimited by touch and presence must be left behind.

Sofía Reynal was born and lives in Buenos Aires. She works across painting, sculpture and installation, finding in christian iconography the framework to explore the state of our life with images in the present. Her work has been shown in Buenos Aires, París, Chicago and New York. She holds an MFA from the School of the Art Institute of Chicago, and a BA in film direction from the Universidad del Cine (FUC).

Our project takes the words spoken by Jesus to Mary Magdalene in the garden after she discovers his empty tomb — noli me tangere (“touch me not”) — as a provocation for reflection on the COVID-19 pandemic, and on other pandemics, viral and social, that engulf us.
